Due to 和Owing to的区别

The seminar was cancelled due to a transport strike.

很多同学可能感觉这样写没问题。但是这个词在这用法是错的。

因为due to只能在句子里修饰名词，一般都是作为形容词使用。在native speaker的眼里，这句话due to修饰的不是cancel而是the seminar。

下面我帮大家区分due to和owing to:

due to是形容词，是不能修饰动词的！

比如：His infertility was due to his high scrotal tempreture.是对的这里相当于because of

放在这句话里就不对:

He was infertile due to his high scrotal tempreture.

因为这里infertile本身就是形容词，不能再用形容词成分修饰。而要用owing to，即可以修饰形容词的介词短语。

但这两个词分不清也不是非要用。因为表示因为的还有很多：

His infertility was caused by his high scrotal tempreture.

She was scaked because of incompetence.
